Sungrow and Quartux supplied and commissioned its cutting-edge liquid cooled ESS, the PowerTitan with Quartux Control® EMS to a 25MWh project in Cancun, Mexico. Grid-connected in February 2023, this impressive installation marks one of the largest energy storage projects in the country, providing peak shaving and backup services to ensure an uninterrupted energy supply for Cancun.

Situated on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula near the Caribbean Sea, Cancun has been grappling with blackout issues due to the region’s unstable electrical network. The 2-hour liquid cooled ESS PowerTitan supplied by Sungrow addresses energy demand peaks in the area by offering peak shaving and back-up services with Quartux Control, Quartux’s leading EMS, enhancing the attractiveness as a prime tourist destination.

The PowerTitan is a professional integration of Sungow’s power electronics, electrochemistry, and power grid support technologies. Its impressive C5 anti-corrosion capability is maintained even in harsh coastal conditions. The DC-DC controller can charge and discharge battery racks individually, increasing system performance. The product adopts advanced liquid-cooled thermal management to safeguard the system's safety and ensure a superior lifespan. Coupled with Quartux’s proprietary EMS this system will provide extended lifetime, optimal operation and a 20 year warranty.

While Mexico has made significant strides in increasing its renewable energy capacity, the development of its battery storage industry is still in its nascent stages. Currently, most renewable energy is directly fed into the grid upon production, leading to increased grid instability. The Mexican government aims to produce 50% of its electricity from green sources by 2050, and battery storage will be a vital tool in achieving this goal.
